The Montgomery Toastmasters!

Since 1924, Toastmasters International has helped millions of men and women become more confident in front of an audience.
Montgomery Toastmasters was established in 1953, and is the oldest Toastmasters Club in Montgomery, Alabama. We are a Community Club, and are not affiliated with any company or sponsor.
The Mission of our Club, and of all Toastmasters Clubs, is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every member has the opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills, which in turn foster self-confidence and personal growth.
Of course, the best way to see whether our Club demonstrates a commitment to our mission is to attend one of our
meetings! We meet once a week on Monday (except Holidays) at 6:00 PM at Faulkner University. Please check out the links on the side of this page for more information.

Toastmasters will give you the skills and confidence you need to effectively express yourself in any situation. Whether you are a professional, student, stay-at-home parent or retiree, Toastmasters is the most efficient, enjoyable and affordable way of gaining great communication skills. By learning to effectively formulate and express your ideas, you open an entirely new world of possibilities. Youll be more persuasive and confident when giving presentations, and youll improve your one-on-one interactions with others.

In short, each meeting is broken down into four parts, the prepared speech portion, "Table Topics," the evaluation portion, and the business meeting. The Club President Chairs the Business meeting, the Toastmaster of the Day presides over the prepared speech portion, the "Table Topics" Master presides over "Table Topics," and the General Evaluator presides over the evaluation portion of the meeting. During the prepared speech portion, members give speeches, usually 5 to 7 minutes. Following the speaking portion, members participate in short impromptu speeches known as "Table Topics." The prepared speeches and the Club meeting as a whole are then evaluated in a constructive manner by Club members who point out strengths and suggest improvements. Finally, certificates are given for the Best "Table Topics," Best Evaluator, Best Speaker, and others. Each week, members take turns speaking, evaluating, and being the Toastmaster of the Day. For more details, please read this Toastmasters publication. Dont worry about whether you have spoken in public before or not! Everyone in our Toastmasters club was once a beginner, and we all still aspire to improve. Our environment is friendly and supportive, and the self-paced program allows you to build confidence with each speaking assignment. Constructive evaluation is the heart of the Toastmasters program. At first youll be applauded for your effort; later youll be applauded for your skill.

If you are interested in becoming a better speaker, please attend one of our meetings. We usually have several guests at our meetings, and always welcome more. Our Club has a diverse membership that has recently included college students, businesspersons, homemakers, lawyers, factory workers, church leaders, professors, active-duty and retired military, doctors, engineers, state employees, and more. We recognize that we could all be better speakers and leaders, and we provide an encouraging environment for all our members to develop those skills.
